1. Sleep. It may sound like a simple step to boosting your immune system. But in fact it is. Getting plenty of rest, at least 7 hours of sleep at night can help your body regulate sugar, blood pressure and retain important bodily functions.
2. Diet. There’s an old saying, you are what you eat. Eating healthy, nutritious foods helps regulate your body and keeps your immune system strong. Not sure what to eat? Think green and leafy! Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids.
3. Stop stressing. Many people realize how much stress impacts the body, let alone the immune system. Stress can cause inflammation in the body, which in turn can prevent your body from being able to fight off bacteria. If you are expressing stress, consider using various coping mechanisms, such as breathing, yoga, or speaking to a licensed therapist.
4. Vitamins. Taking your vitamins regularly can help address areas of health that need attention. Vitamin C for example, can help manage high blood pressure, boost the immune system and can help prevent iron deficiency. Before taking any vitamins you should consult with your healthcare professional.
5. Quit smoking. If you’re a cigarette smoker you could be doing some heavy damage to your lungs which could cause various health risks. There are organizations dedicated to helping individuals quit smoking. Check out the American Cancer Society, and Tobacco Free Florida and U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
